The Nutcracker is a symphony about childhood. No, or rather, about when childhood is at a turning point. When the hopes of a still unknown youth are already worried, and children’s fears have not yet gone away. When dreams draw thoughts and feelings forward, into the unconscious – into a life that is only anticipated.
