On November 8, 9 and 10, The Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre will present the premiere of the two-part ballet evening “Place in the Universe” that includes productions by modern Russian choreographers – “Perihelios” by Slava Samodurov and “Evangelium” by Maxim Sevagin, artistic director of the MAMT Ballet company.
The mysteries of the Universe have troubled mankind throughout its history. The choreographers investigate a philosophical theme of the cosmos and the search for man’s place in the celestial space. Maria Tregubova’s scenography and costumes will unite the performances by a common geometric and color solution.
Maxim Sevagin’s ballet “Evangelium” is inspired by Russian folklore. The performance tells about human life through abstract philosophical concepts, regarding crucial momentsin human destiny and the inner search for answers to eternal questions.
As the musical basis of the production the choreographer chose 7 movements of the miracle-play symphony “Chimes” by Valery Gavrilin, an undeservedly forgotten composer of the twentieth century.. Instead of an orchestra, the dancers will be accompanied a capella by the Minin Choir (the Moscow State Academic Chamber Choir) and soloists of the Stanislavsky Opera company under the baton of Timofey Golberg.
The performance “Perihelios” will be the first project of Slava Samodurovfor with MAMT Ballet company. The production is based on the choreographer’s impressions about the connection between cosmic dimensions and the humanone. Perigelios is the point of closest approach to a parent star of a body orbiting this star.
Slava Samodurov creates the performance in close contact with avant-garde composer Vladimir Gorlinsky and set designer Maria Tregubova. Sergei Vasilyev is responsible for the lighting design. In addition to the ballet dancers, the stage will be filled with celestial bodies of various sizes.
The musical director and conductor is Fyodor Beznosikov.
